Digitech Mosaic 12-String Effect Pedal is not the same as my old Rickenbacker 12 string I wish I still owned, but it is a pretty decent simulation. For some players that need a 12 string for a few songs, this might allow them to leave their 12 string home. Can be used with electric or plugged in acoustic 6 string guitars.

I found putting a modest compressor in front of the Digitech Mosaic made the effect sound better. Adding a chorus to the chain is also great fun.

The Mosaic Polyphonic 12-String Effect Pedal sets you upon the path of creating lush 12-string sounds with either 6-string electric or amplified acoustic guitars. Immediately identifiable 12-string tones are now yours with octave low strings and doubled high strings. Single notes and full chordal strums shine with polyphonic richness and celestial movement that will inspire you. The Mosaic’s balanced low-end response with crisp octave shimmer produces a tone that’s lush and articulate, just as with a 12-string guitar.

Tailor the Mosaic’s sound with the independent Level and Tone controls. Level will control the 12-string effect intensity while Tone shapes the overall brightness of the effect. The Mosaic will give you a richer, more resonant and full tone than a standard six-string guitar. Note the level and tone does not affect your guitar tone, just the 12-string effect.

Controls:
LEVEL – Adjusts the intensity of the 12-string effect
TONE – Adjusts the amount of high frequency enhancement being applied to your signal

  • Turn any 6-string guitar into a 12-string
  • Advanced, Polyphonic Pitch Shifting and Intelligent Doubling
  • Adjustable Tone control
  • 9VDC Power Supply included
  • True Bypass

There is no upper octave on the high E and B strings on a 12-string guitar as these strings are just doubled. The Digitech Mosaic does add an upper octave to the E and B strings, but it still sounds pretty decent as the effect is subtle.

In fact, on a Rickenbacker the the higher octave strings on the E-A-D-G strings are reversed compared to most 12-string guitars. Rick’s have the octave pairs are configured so each high octave string precedes the lower string. Meaning the low octave comes first, followed by the high octave, and this adds subtle sonic effect on chords and riffs. One reason a Rick sound like a Rick!

My Danelectro 12-string is a great guitar for the low cost by is not a Rickenbacker. Using the Jangle Box sure helps comp the tone however. Using the Jangle Box and the Digitech Mosaic together with a 6-string improves the 12-string simulation as well.

Basically, to get Beatles, Byrds or Tom Petty 12-string sounds you want to play trough a clean amp with a bit of reverb. Sounds as good as my old Line 6 modeling guitars, if not better. The Digitech Mosaic is mostly a “one-trick” box, but can add something new to your arsenal and if you play funk gives you a new tool.
