Yamaha THR30II Wireless is Yamaha’s second generation of what they consider a guitarists “third” amp category. This is an innovation that was spawned from Yamaha’s expertise in stereos, soundbars, and guitar amplifiers. Yamaha has nicely improved the desktop amplifier that has been copied by several other manufacturers. I have been a longtime owner and fan of the earlier Yamaha THR10C Amp. In the previous version of Yamaha’s THR series was offered as three separate THR desktop amps containing different guitar amp models. In this new THR30II series all 15 amp models are on-board listed as classic, boutique and modern. There are three Bass amps, three acoustic models and a flat control for other instruments as well as a tuner on board.

THR10C and THR30II

THR10C and THR30II side by side

Yamaha offers a few different models in the new THRII series at various price points. I opted for the larger more powerful Yamaha THR30II Wireless which is three times more powerful at 30 watts than my Yamaha THR10C Amp 10 watt amp. The extra headroom allows for some improved sounds. You still get great sound at low volumes.

One of the best features on the THR series amps is that the amp model has a separate gain, master volume, bass, middle, treble controls that are independent of the guitar output volume control. This allows for setting up a nice sound in the amp model and controlling the guitar volume without affecting the tone. These little amps utilize reflected stereo sound and do not project like a regular guitar amp. They sound bigger at lower home volumes than their physical size suggests.

Yamaha THR30II Wireless has Bluetooth for sending backing tracks from your smart devices or computer. No more cables to connect your phone or iPad. Bluetooth also allows for controlling all the THRII functions from an iOS or Android app. Although you can control most all of the THRII functions from the top, the app gives you even more functions like a compressor and speaker cabinets models.

Yamaha THR30II Wireless now has a rechargeable battery instead of a slew of AA batteries that the previous model used. So you do not even need AC power. There is an option to use Line 6 G10 Relay wireless transmitter (Line 6 is owned by Yamaha) to use with a guitar or bass for a fully wireless experience. Some other nice improvements in the THRII feature a nicer power button and improved cabinet.

The Yamaha THR30II Wireless also is the only model in the new series that also has two (L&R) 1/4” audio line outs to send out to a PA. THR30II has slightly larger speakers and cabinet. All the new THRII series also has a USB output that provides 2 channels of recording to your computer and 2 channels of playback from your computer.

Looking great in any living room or office decor and serving as a great Bluetooth speaker for playing your favorite tunes. I probably plug into this amp more often than any of my tube amps.

Realistic Tube Tone in a Compact Package
No matter where you are, you can plug into a Yamaha THR30 II Wireless and experience realistic tube tone. This battery-powered combo amplifier includes a full arsenal of guitar and bass amp emulations, along with mic models for your acoustic-electric and flat modes for everything else. Ditch your pedalboard — the THR30 II Wireless’s 3-band EQ, and a great-sounding selection of modulation effects, echoes, and reverbs, have you covered. Bluetooth support enables you to stream backing tracks — with full Hi-Fi quality — through the THR30 II Wireless’s stereo speakers. The THR30 II Wireless also includes plug-and-play USB connectivity for recording and playback, along with a built-in wireless receiver for performing cable-free.

Loaded with essential amp tones and onboard effects
Yamaha built the THR30 II Wireless for creatively combining tones and effects. Choose from one of 15 amp models. You can also plug in your bass or acoustic-electric guitar, and there’s even a setting that bypasses the modeling altogether. The THR30 II Wireless’s modulation effects live on a second knob, and its echoes and reverbs live on a third. The result is a full amplifier rig worth of effects and tone combinations. And thanks to Yamaha’s Virtual Circuitry Modeling, the THR30 II Wireless emulates each component in each amp model and effect.

Bluetooth support for playback, preset editing, and more
Bluetooth support gives the THR30 II Wireless capabilities that soundly outclass its predecessor. Fire up your preferred streaming service on a smart device and jam along with your favorite tunes. Take a deep dive into the THR30 II Wireless’s amp models — wirelessly — via Yamaha’s THR Remote app, and create your own custom presets. You can also access the THR30’s compressor and noise gate for more tone-tweaking possibilities. And since the THR30 II Wireless features five user settings recall buttons, you can take up to five of your favorite tones with you anywhere.
